Wish Me Luck

So, this weekend is my baby's 2nd birthday. The one I've been planning on doing the train birthday cake for. With plenty of ideas and lots of research, here I go.

Do you think I can make something resemble a train out of this heap of junk? I seriously hope so! Here goes nothin'...

My First Train Idea...

This one was sent to me by my cute friend Sara. She made this for her son's 2nd birthday. She used small loaf pans to make the cars and cut one up and rearranged it to make the first car. She decorated with candies, chocolates and tootsie rolls. She used fudge stripe cookies for the wheels. Stinkin' cute!! Thanks Sara for the idea to go on...

Cake Ideas. Please....

Okay, here's the plan. My son turns 2 next Sunday. I have been planning to make him a "train" cake. I've been having ideas swirl around in my head for about a month. I've watched you tube video and looked at pictures. Still not certain of my exact approach. Have any of you ever made a train cake or seen one made? I have a really cute idea in my head, I am just a little unsure of the execution. Any ideas or pics??? Anything would be helpful.

A Different Version of a Butterfly (love it!!)

This picture was sent in to me by my friend (and client) Brianne.

She made this cute Butterfly cake for her twin daughter's birthday cake. This is her description of how she did it:

I used a small heart cake pan, which I baked a cake in 4 times, so it took a little longer than if maybe you had two, but I am too cheap, and then I used plastic easter eggs layed open for the middle.

Turned out way cute. I never thought of using heart shapes for the wings. Thanks a ton Brianne for the picture!

Another Butterfly Cake

This is an adorable butterfly cake made by Melinda. She made it for her daughter's birthday. I'm not certain, but I think she made it for her 1st birthday, hence the mini cake!!

This is bright and springy. Black licorice for the body and colorful frosting, sprinkles and candies complete the darling cake! Thanks for another winner, Melinda!!

Butterfly Cake

Wow! THat is one bad picture. Thank heavens for the digital revolution!!!

I actually scanned a scrapbook page that I wasn't willing to ruin. Sorry!

This cake I made for my daughter's first birthday! My first big cake. How exciting. That was 8 years ago. Yikes!

I made 2 9 by 13 cakes and made a template of the wings on a piece of paper. Then I cut them out and used 2 twinkies for the body/head. I just laid it all out on the tray and then frosted it with white frosting (obviously) and used sprinkles and tube gel frosting to decorate and I think I used black shoestring licorice for antennae, but I don't remember! Hope this brings loads of spring time inspiration!!

Everything Spring

Send me in your "Spring" cakes! I love spring themed cakes. My oldest two children were born in the winter, so I am always doing winter themed cakes. I am so glad my youngest child was born in the spring, for many reasons!!! But, one is I can branch out a bit as far as cake themes go. So, send 'em in! I have a few in the works and ready to go, starting with my last post. The spring balloons. So cute!!! Send 'em on in!!!!

Balloon Cake (cupcakes)

This cake is so adorable! So creative and so simple! I love it!

Sent to me by Melinda. She made it for her daughter's birthday. So easy and perfect for a birthday party. No cutting of the cake, no utinsels required. Very kid friendly! Thanks Melinda, again for a wonderful cake!

Another Cute Monkey Cake

This is a cute cake and baby!! This one was sent in by Shauntel. She got the idea from Martha Stewart. The cake was cooked in a bowl and turned upside down. She then cut out little chunks on the side for the ears and used ding dongs for the ears. Frosted it all and then used white frosting for the details with brown m&m's for the eyes!! So cute!! Thanks for sending this one in.

Monkey'n Around

My cake savvy cousin, Melinda, sent me this cute monkey cake! Isn't this darling. I just love it!! She made it for a "groom's cake". So clever!! I love monkeys and this one is awesome. I am entirely untalented, now I see that...

Here's what she did:

I used a winnie the pooh 3-D cake mold. After baking the cake I cut down the nose, cut off the ears and didn’t follow the markings when frosting. I added ½ of a nilla wafer for each ear and some extra cake cut into the shape of a tail. I decorated all over (except hands/feet and face) with stars. I got the bananas from runts candy.

Thanks again, Melinda!!

Rolie Polie Olie

This is one of my favorite cakes that I have made! I made this cake for my first son's first birthday! I think the reason I like this one so much is that it's really original and I completley came up with it on my own. No help. Just an idea and lots of crap from the craft store!! Not much cake to speak of, but I think it's pretty dang cute!! Does anyone know whatever happened to Rolie Polie Olie?? One of the best cartoons EVER! I'm just saying..
